GANDHI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, ODISHA, GUNUPUR

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Overview

The Electrical & Electronics Engineering department of this college is started in the academic year 2007-2008 with the objective of giving best “Technical Education” to aspiring Power Engineers. This department provides an environment where young minds can grow to their full potential and become strong, principled and committed Citizens of the Country. The department hasĀ  well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty of which most of them are having P.G qualification in different streams. Some of the faculty are pursuing PhD.

The department has good infrastructure with different labs namely Basic Electrical Lab, Electrical Machines-I Lab, Electrical Machines-II Lab, Power Electronics Lab, Simulation Lab, Measurement and Control Lab, Power System Analysis Lab, Energy management & Auditing lab, Renewable Energy lab, Green Technologies lab, Smart grid lab. All the labs are fully equipped to cater the present day technology. Simulation lab is fully equipped with necessary systems and software.

Every year our final year students are encouraged to write GATE, CAT, GRE and TOFEL exams. Our students are used to get all India GATE ranks every year. Our students used to get Top Ranks in the university exams conducted by Pondicherry University. Students are encouraged to participate in State and National level paper contests. National level student paper contest is being held in the Department every year.

The Department has its own association called EEEā€™s students society and conducts many technical talks, seminars, quiz etc. Every semester at least two guest lectures are being arranged in addition to above activities. Our students participating in national and state level technical competitions and there by winning many prizes showing their hidden talents. The department is also associated with ISTE activities which give the students to improve and update their technical knowledge and personality development by conducting good programmes.

Our Students go to industry to take training or to do mini projects. The dept conducts Department Advisory Committee meeting every year by inviting two experts one each from Industry and Academia to share their experiences, knowledge, developments that can be taken up in the dept in order to strengthen the dept as a whole which in turn beneficial to the students even for their better placements also.

The dept is having better industry-institute interaction used to provide the Industrial training to the final year students for complete semester in order to have better exposure on the latest techniques adopted in the industry etc. The dept is also providing on campus technical training programmes to the students on different software packages like MATLAB, PowerSim, P-Spice, Homer, RETScreen, Motorpro etc.

The departments is engaged in research activities, mainly in Power Systems, Renewable Energy systems, IOT, Big Data, Artificial intelligence, Energy Management and Distribution Systems. Presently, the departments has taken up several R&D projects funded by DST, MSME, UGC and AICTE Organizations. The departments also undertakes testing of motors, Insulation Boards, Energy Audit and Management etc., as a part of consultancy work.

Vision

To develop globally recognized Engineers in the frontier areas of Electrical & Electronics Engineering who can set a benchmark in innovation, research, and entrepreneurial skills.

Mission

  • To create future innovators by understanding the needs & problems of the industry, society, and the nation.
  • To carry out quality research with international standards and prepare future leaders with entrepreneurial & industrial skills.
  • To enhance employable opportunities for the rural & weaker sections and nurture them into responsible citizens.

Why Study Electrical Engineering?

  • Present global scenario is looking towards Renewable energies, clean energy, Green buildings, Smart grid technology, Cyber physical systems, Distribution Automation. So as per the present estimation within 2 to 3 years India only needs 2, 50,000 Renewable energy experts and globally the demand is unimaginable.
  • Electrical engineering jobs represent about 25% of total available jobs in engineering!
  • Present power generation in India is very less and it is going to be increased 2 times within 5 to 8 years. Hence the Job opportunities in Power generation & transmission sector also will increase to 2 times.
  • In India 30 % of the government jobs are from Electrical Engineering sector only.
  • Energy efficiency is also playing a major role in clean energy and in India there is a requirement of over 80,000 energy managers and 50,000 energy auditors by 2020.
  • One more interesting fact is ā€œAn Electrical Engineering student can enter in to the job market of Computer engineering, Electronics & communication engineering, Instrumentation engineering, control engineering, robotics, mechanical engineering, VHDL, VLSI, Embedded systems etc., But any branch of other engineering student can not enter in to the Electrical Engineering job marketā€.
  • This branch is one of the ā€˜Core Branchesā€™ of Engineering; Electricity has become the basic need for survival of human beings globally. From household to industrial plants, communication and satellite navigation system, electronic equipment, computers etc., all require electricity. Electrical engineering is one of the core fields of engineering, always evergreen in terms of scope and job prospects.

If you want guaranteed job after graduation, then you must make sure that the course which you select is among the top and the best ones.

When it comes to job opportunities, classic Electrical Engineering branch is an ā€˜Evergreen Branchā€™. It means that you will easily get jobs after graduating. Most of the major industries require Electrical Engineers. So, this is a top course to pursue.

They cover wide variety of applications:

  • Energy: efficient lighting, buildings, computing, and communications; solar cells; low power devices and circuits; energy harvesting from the environment; smart power grids;
  • Information: security; communications; networks; machine learning;
  • Health: informatics; medical imaging, sensing, and diagnosis; brain imaging, Signal processing
  • Telecommunicationsā€”Design and build the next-generation Internet. 3G, 4G, 5G
  • Wireless Communications and Networking, Sensors, Microwave, and Image Processing
  • Micro-Electronics & Nano electronics, Nano-Optics
  • Energy Systems and Power Electronics, HVDC and EHVAC, UHV AC systems
  • Plasma Processing, Laser and Photonics, MEMS, CAD, and Microsystems
  • Biomedical Engineering, Communication and Signal Processing, Control Engineering, Electromagnetic, Electronics and Microelectronics, Power Systems, Optical Engineering, Energy engineering, VHDL, VLSI, robotics etc.,
