Research

The departmental R & D cell of Mechanical Engineering, G.I.E.T. University, Gunupur, Odisha aims to cultivate research culture in the department by promoting research in newly emerging and challenging areas of mechanical engineering. It encourages the Undergraduate, Post graduate and Doctoral degree candidates and faculties to undertake the research in newly emerging frontier areas of science and engineering including multidisciplinary fields. This will enhance the general research capability of growing technocrats by way of participating in conferences, seminars, workshops, project competition, etc.

Policy: To create good infrastructural facilities and favourable environment to inspire research culture.Aim: To Promote, Coordinate and Implement Research and Development Programs.

Goals and objectives:

  • To promote research activities in frontier areas of science and technology
  • To enhance the research output of the department by research paper publication in referred journals and reputed conferences
  • To promote Institute- R&D Organization- Industry Collaboration
  • To encourage Core Competence and Consultancy work
  • To create awareness about filing Patents & IPR
  • R & D promotion activities for staff and students such as participating in conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.
  • Effective management of Ph.D. programme (Registration of candidates, progress seminars, pre-submission seminars till completion of research work).

 

One of the important criteria to judge the performance of research output of the institution is to obtain recognition by reputed Government/Autonomous sponsoring agencies towards generation of funds to conduct quality research. The department has applied a number of research grants from agencies like DST, AICTE, ICMR, IEI, MSME etc. over the period. In the academic year of 2017-18, the department has applied for various research projects/ grants approximately of Rs. 250 lakhs. A research grant of Rs. 15.77 lakhs received from MSME, New Delhi under the scheme of support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators. Over and above, recently the department has applied a proposal of Rs. 1.5 Crores to SEED-DST under the Science Technology and innovation hub in GIET University.
