Computer Science and Engineering Research Overview

The department of computer science and engineering at GIET University has a mission to impart high-quality knowledge to the students. The department wishes to become an important regional and national player in the development of computing and its applications. It has already collaborated with several renowned academic institutions in research and development.

The well qualified and experienced faculty have published their research work in reputed national and international journals. They have also attended and organised various national and international conferences.

The department is mainly focused on research work in the below mentioned 5 areas:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are hot topics in the modern technology industry. AI is everywhere, from gaming to maintaining complex information at work. AI is the science of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computers. Simply put, AI’s goal is to make computer/computer programs that are smart enough to imitate human behaviour.

Machine Learning is a subset of Artificial Intelligence. It is the science of designing and applying algorithms that can learn things from past cases. ML can solve several complex issues like credit card fraud detection, face detection and recognition and so on. The machine algorithms use Computer Science and Statistics to learn from history to produce reliable results.

The department of Computer Science and Engineering at GIET University are working on these two areas with a vision to expand and further the research, education and outreach activities in the fields.

Information and Communication Technologies for Development

The use of information and communication technologies have a great impact on the opportunities and limitations for social development in poor countries. The study of these impacts is called information communication technology for development.

Information and Communication technologies include any communication device such as television, radio, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on.

The department of computer science and engineering at GIET University has been working on the use of Information and Communication Technology and how it reduced social inequality as well as digital divide in the country.

Computer Systems and Networking

Advancements in computing power and networking are driving the revolution in mobile technology, wireless network, video streaming and so on. The computer and networking areas address issues related to programming, communication of different computing devices like laptops, tablets, computers etc. Computer networks allow computers to communicate with one another and form the backbone of the internet.

Research on computer networks at GIET University focuses on areas like networks and distributed systems, programming languages, compilers, databases and so on.

Robotics

Robotics is an interdisciplinary area of science and engineering. It is dedicated to the design and creation of mechanical robots. Robotics have great application in modern industrial society. From assembling cars in automotive industries to performing complex medical surgeries that are physically impossible for humans to perform.

The department of computer science and engineering at GIET University is working toward creating robots that can improve the world for the better. From assisting humans with impairments to moving in challenging environments and other different and complicated areas.

Security and privacy

Security and privacy study the protection of information and systems in different computer science areas like software security, data security, network security, protection of privacy and so on.

Attacks on computing and cyber systems is a challenging task for engineers. The computer science and engineering department of GIET University is undertaking different measures to reduce such risks arising in areas like; email and other digital networking sites, digital and banking transactions, security and privacy in wireless and wired networks and so on.

All the faculty members and students work in close collaboration to enhance the quality of research work. The department is dedicated to preparing students who can meet the requirements of this rapidly expanding and evolving branch of engineering.
