Department of Management Studies

Overview

The department of Management Studies at GIET University believes in preparing the students to approach business obstacles just as established corporations do. The focus is on experiential learning so that students can gain the knowledge and skills essential for solving real-world problems. The emphasis is on learning by doing. With this goal in mind, the faculty and the students of the department carry out innovative research work in several areas, the thrust areas being:

Social Entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurship is about recognising the social problems and achieving social change by employing entrepreneurial principles, processes and operations. The entrepreneurs in this field are associated with non-profit sectors and organisations. Research in this field focuses on how to create value for society, as well as value for profits and returns.

Accounting and Finance

Accounting and finance refer to the recording and analysing of business activities. An understanding of the incoming and outgoing cash flow will help a business owner make better decisions about business management. Researchers in this field strive to understand how firms make value-enhancing decisions, and how financial institutions, markets etc. contribute to this process.

Globalisation

Globalisation is the increased interconnectedness and interdependence of peoples and countries. One of the effects of globalisation is that it promotes interactions between different regions and populations across the globe.

Research in this field focuses on cross-cultural learnings, the challenges of taking domestic companies to the global arena, emerging companies with global potential and so on.

Leadership

Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving a common goal. An inspiring leadership motivates others to work harder.

Research in this area explores questions of organisational change, power and influence, innovation and the important role that leadership plays in the success of any organisation.

Technology and Innovation

Technology is a powerful driving force behind innovative capacity. Innovation refers to putting in an extra effort to develop new services and products in the marketplace that was not present in the past.

Research in this area focuses on the value creation of platforms, development and execution of innovative strategies, development of new markets through the creation of innovative technologies, the impact of innovation on economic growth and so on.

The pursuit of excellence is what drives the faculty towards imparting a wholesome learning experience for the students. Along with theoretical knowledge, the focus on research work creates individuals who are industry-ready and thorough professionals.
