GIET University, Gunupur (formerly known as Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology) was established by “Vidya Bharati Educational Trust,” Gunupur, Odisha, India in the year 1997. Since inception, the Trust promotes Technical Education in India with a motto of providing Quality Education in a highly disciplined and conducive environment with International Standards.
Agriculture plays a vital role in the Indian economy. About 60 percent of the Indian workforce is directly or indirectly involved in agriculture. However, this still has not resulted in substantial growth of the agricultural sector. The contribution of agriculture to the GDP has decreased to less than 25 percent. Therefore, it has become more important than ever to take this field seriously and encourage young minds to explore this highly significant area.
A solid background in mathematics, with sound knowledge in science subjects such as biology, chemistry, and physics is required for admission to Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Agricultural Engineering. In addition to this, adequate knowledge of English, Social studies, computer science and literacy, and humanities are also equally important requisites for admission into the discipline. The bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering programs is of four years duration.
After the completion of the degree, agriculturists can find jobs in various reputable sectors such as researchers, scientists, farm managers, project directors, head greenkeepers, product design engineers, senior agricultural managers, agronomists, research analysts, farming consultants, or as subject matter specialists, etc. among many others. Self-employment is another option graduates from our university can consider.
At GIET University, the focus is mainly on the science of Agriculture, which is aimed at enhancing the quality of agricultural produce and develops new varieties of crops. We believe that this will help in increasing the production and quality of the food grain in India. This will result in helping and bringing economic prosperity to the Indian farmers as a whole.
The agricultural engineers from our University can apply their knowledge of engineering technology and biological science to design agricultural equipment, machinery, and structures. Various ways to develop and conserve soil and water and help in improving the processing of existent agricultural products etc. are other ways agricultural engineers can contribute to our society. Graduates in this stream of engineering from GIET University can also help in improving the crop production systems, design animal facilities, analyze food production systems, and test machinery.
Laboratory Facilities
Soil Science Laboratory:
This laboratory is specifically designed inside the premise of GIET University to integrate lecture subject matter with hands-on experience. This laboratory chiefly exposes students to soil and soil-related environmental issues. Various activities such as soil description and analysis, composting, soil and landscape assessment, soil information and interpretation, nutrient assessment and management, and soil system modeling, etc. are carried out in the facility under the guidance of faculty members.
The following soil science equipment are available to carry out different practical and research studies
As a trusted Educational Institute, we at GIET University expose our students to high-quality research and scholarly environment. Together the talents of faculty members and students are developed and it is used to generate new knowledge and technology that can benefit the farming society and entrepreneurs. At GIET University, we are firm believers that teaching and research are mutually supportive; therefore, one cannot excel without the other. Hence, effective outreach programs are introduced to accelerate the adoption of technology and extend educational opportunities for practicing professionals.
The research programs at our University are funded by different agencies. We carry out collaborative research with both National and International institutes that lead to the release of various innovations, implements, types of machinery, equipment, technologies to cater to the needs of Indian farmers and many small entrepreneurs.
