GIET University, previously known as Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology, was established by the “Vidya Bharati Educational Trust” in Gunupur, Odisha, India. Established in 1997 and accredited University status in 2018, GIET is one of India’s top universities.

For students aspiring of pursuing their education in the prestigious institution of GIET, here are some scholarship programs they can apply for.

PhD and M.Tech Scholarship

A total of 25 PhD and 15 M.Tech scholarships are available. These scholarships are offered to deserving students who get the fantastic opportunity to pursue their higher education at GIETU. This scholarship is valid for PhD in Engineering & Technology, Humanities, Management, Science and Social Sciences. In addition, the students applying for the M.Tech scholarship can pursue their masters on any M.tech programme availed by the university.

Acquiring a sum of 25,000 rupees every month, the PhD scholarship holders will join the university as research associates. For the M.Tech scholars, the scholarship amount is 12,500 rupees per month. The scholarship is a full-time residential one with free hostel accommodation and allowing the scholars and department access of 6-8 hours.

  • Age limit– below 35
  • Last date of application– 30-09-2021, Time– before 11:45p.m.
  • Selection criteria– Merit, eligibility, and entrance performance

Note: Students who have qualified for GATE/ NET/ DET/M for the PhD program. Phil/ JRF need not appear for the entrance test. Instead, they are directly eligible for viva-voce.

AICTE Pragati and Saksham Scholarship Scheme

Intending to empower women and differently-abled persons, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has come up with the scholarship programmes of:

  • AICTE Pragati – To promote higher education for girls by providing financial assistance
  • AICTE Saksham– To promote higher education and provide equal opportunities to differently-abled students through financial assistance.

The scholarship program is valid for- Degree and Diploma

Eligibility criteria for the Pragati Scheme

  • Having a total annual income below Rs. 8 lakh.
  • A maximum of 2 girls from the same family can avail of the scholarship.
  • For admission in the first year in a diploma/degree course, the applicant must have cleared their 10th/ 12th boards respectively within 2018-2020.
  • For admission in the second year in a diploma/degree course, the applicant must have cleared their Diploma/ITI respectively within 2018-2020.

Eligibility criteria for the Saksham Scheme

  • With a disability of not lesser than 40%.
  • Having total annual income below Rs. 8 lakh.
  • For admission in the first year in a diploma/degree course, the applicant must have cleared their 10th/ 12th boards respectively within 2018-2020.
  • For admission in the second year in a diploma/degree course, the applicant must have cleared their Diploma/ITI respectively within 2018-2020.

Board of Governance Scholarship

A scholarship amount of 1 lakh per annum has been availed by the Board of Governance Scholarship. Valid for multiple applicant quotas, the eligibility criteria varying for all the sections are as follows:

  • GIETEE (B.Tech only)- The applicant must be among the top 10 rank holders.
  • IIT JEE (Mains) (B.Tech only)- The applicant must have cleared the mains and secured a rank among the 25000 positions.
  • State Toppers- The applicant must have topped the government state board or CBSE/ICSE.
  • Residents of Odisha (B.Tech only)– The applicant must have secured more than 80% in CHSE/ Odisha State Board or secured more than 9 CGPA in CBSE/ICSE.
  • Sports- The applicant must be a sports representative at the state/nation/ international level.

GIETU Merit Scholarship

The GIETU Merit Scholarship offers a total scholarship amount of 50,000 rupees per annum to brilliant and deserving students. The eligibility criteria for applicants belonging to varied categories are as follows:

  • GIETU Merit Scholarship Test (B.Tech only)– The applicant must be holding a position beginning from rank 11 to rank 20.
  • IIT JEE (Mains) (B.Tech only)- The applicant must have cleared the mains and secured a rank starting from 25001 to 1 lakh positions.
  • State Toppers- The applicant must be within the ranks of 11 to 50 in the government state board or CBSE/ICSE.
  • Residents of Odisha (B.Tech only)– The applicant must have secured more than 75% in CHSE/ Odisha State Board or secured more than 8.5 CGPA in CBSE/ICSE.

Employee Ward Scholarship

Exclusively available for the children and relatives of the GIETU employees, the eligibility specifications have been categorised and mentioned below.

Non-renewable scholarship amount allotted for the admission of the first child of

  • Up to Rs 25000 for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff with a minimum experience of 4 years.
  • Up to Rs 50,000 for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff with a minimum experience of 8 years and 5 years respectively.
  • Up to Rs 75,000 for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff with a minimum experience of 12 years and 8 years, respectively.
  • Up to Rs 1,00,000 for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff with a minimum experience of 16 years and 10 years, respectively.

Non-renewable scholarship amount allotted for the admission of the second and third child of

  • Up to Rs 25000 for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff with a minimum experience of 4 years.
  • Up to Rs 50,000 for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff with a minimum experience of 8 years and 5 years respectively.

Sponsored Scholarships

Apart from the comprehensive options of scholarships mentioned above, the Government of India also avails scholarship schemes. The ultimate goal of the scholarship schemes is to empower the deprived and ignored sections of society with the ultimate weapon of education.
