Introduction
Agricultural education must rapidly evolve to meet societal needs. Despite learning essential scientific and technical concepts, many agriculture students lack the confidence to start their own ventures. To address this, the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme, introduced in Indian agricultural institutes and SAUs as per ICAR’s Randhawa Committee recommendations, offers real-life exposure to B.Sc. (Ag.) final-year students. Implemented by Palli Siksha Bhavana and others, RAWE aims to build professional skills and self-confidence by immersing students in rural farming conditions. Students engage in participatory rural appraisal (PRA) and fieldwork to understand farmers’ challenges and apply their knowledge practically. The programme develops communication, problem-solving, and technical skills, fostering a sense of responsibility to contribute to rural development and agricultural progress.
About RAWE
RAWE follows an experiential learning model focused on holistic student development. It enhances students’ problem-solving skills, self-reliance, communication, and field competence. With agriculture evolving rapidly, RAWE prepares future professionals to meet modern demands through real-world engagement and critical analysis of field experiences.
