The NSS and NCC units of GIET University, Gunupur, observed Road Safety Week on 16th January 2025, with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about road safety among the public. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and university authorities.
The rally commenced sharply at 8:00 AM from the New Bus Stand and proceeded towards Gunupur College, covering prominent areas of the town. The rally was graced by the esteemed presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.V.N.L. Sharma, who emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules for ensuring safety on the roads.
NSS Convener, Mr. Bani Prasad Nayak, and Co-Convener, Mr. Pramod Ranjan Panda, along with Ms. Ghanista Prusty (PO, NSS wing, Unit-2) Dr. Nirmala Patel, Ms. B. Priyanka, Mr. Dumesh Meher and Mr. A. K. Samal (HoD, Dept. of Civil) and all the faculty coordinators of NSS actively participated in the rally, lending their support to this noble cause. The NCC CTO, Mr. Chinmaya Ranjan Swain, led the NCC Cadets with enthusiasm, guiding them in spreading key messages about road safety to the public.
The students of NSS and NCC Cadets, with placards, banners, and slogans, educated the public about the importance of:
• Wearing helmets and seat belts.
• Avoiding mobile phone usage while driving.
• Following traffic signals and speed limits.
• Pedestrian safety.
The rally concluded with a brief interactive session at Gunupur College, where the participants highlighted the significance of road safety through engaging talks and personal anecdotes.
This initiative by GIET University’s NSS and NCC units stands as a testament to their commitment to social responsibility and public awareness. The event was well-received by the public, who appreciated the efforts to make roads safer for everyone.
