One Day Industrial Visit to OMFED Dairy Plant

ONE DAY INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO OMFED DAIRY PLANT BY B.TECH. VI SEM AGE STUDENTS ON 18.03.2024

B. Tech. AGE 6th semester students accompanied by Dr. S. H. Suthar, Professor (Honorary), Deptt. of Agril. Engg., had an enriching one-day industrial visit on 18/03/2024 to OMFED Dairy, Arilo plant, Bhubaneswar, gaining practical insights into milk and milk product processing, equipment for different unit operations and milk and milk products marketing.
The main aim of OMFED Dairy plant visit is to expose practical knowledge on equipments and processing of milk and milk products. The different sections of the dairy plant are Milk Reception Centre, Raw Milk Storage Tanks which are 5 in total with each having 1 lakh liter milk storage capacity, Standardization, Pasteurization and Sterilization section of milk and milk products, Milk Pouch Filling and Packaging Section and Inventory of milk pouch and milk products.

The students also gained the knowledge on curd, butter, ghee and paneer making process and its equipments. The technology behind the tetra pack pouch packaging was also explained by technical officer in details. The equipments in quality control laboratory were also explained in depth by lab-in charge where raw milk and finished products quality are analyzed. CIP, a special cleaning technology, used to clean dairy plant equipment and processing line were also explained well to the students. The students observed very critically all sections and interacted with technical officer on milk and milk product processing and equipment.

The arranged visit is so much useful for strengthening practical knowledge of the course “Dairy and Food Engineering” offered in VIth Sem.

At the end of visit, students expressed votes of thanks to General Manager, OMFED Dairy Plant and other technical officers and technicians and with group photo with General Manager. They also thanked Dr. A.B. Srinivasa Rao, HoD, Agricultural Engg. and Registrar Sir for encouraging towards practical exposure and providing the necessary support for this tour.
