GIET University Commemorates International Women’s Day with an Inspiring Celebration
Gunupur, March 8, 2025 – GIET University, Gunupur, hosted a distinguished International Women’s Day Celebration, bringing together eminent dignitaries, faculty, students, and alumni in a profound tribute to women’s empowerment, leadership, and contributions to society. The event underscored the university’s steadfast commitment to gender equity, safety, and the advancement of women in academia and beyond.
Dr. Prativa Kar, Convenor of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), delivered an impassioned welcome address, highlighting the university’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of female students and staff. She emphasized that GIET University has established itself as one of the safest academic institutions, implementing progressive policies and structured initiatives to foster an environment of security, inclusivity, and respect. Her address underscored the fundamental principle that empowerment begins with a safe and equitable foundation, reaffirming the institution’s role as a leader in promoting gender-sensitive governance within higher education.
The event was further elevated by the presence of distinguished speakers, including Dr. Sistla Rama Devi Pani, Head Research and Editor, University News, AIU, Ministry of Education, New Delhi, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. In her thought-provoking discourse, Dr. Pani provided critical insights into the evolving landscape of women’s empowerment, particularly in academia, research, and policy development. She articulated the pivotal role of education and leadership in driving systemic transformation, emphasizing that women’s empowerment is not merely an individual pursuit but a collective responsibility to create opportunities, dismantle barriers, and foster mentorship and support systems.
The evening’s keynote address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Anuradha Mishra, Additional Director General, Directorate General of Vigilance, Eastern Zonal Unit, Kolkata, who provided an insightful and inspiring narrative on the role of women in leadership and governance. She underscored the challenges women continue to face in professional and administrative spheres, advocating for resilience, determination, and strategic empowerment initiatives to overcome systemic obstacles.
In his address, Dr. A.V.N.L. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of GIET University, emphasized the indispensable role of women in academia, research, and innovation, reiterating that higher education institutions must serve as catalysts for gender inclusivity and equal opportunity.
