GANDHI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, ODISHA, GUNUPUR

inaugurated Odisha’s first Intel® Unnati Data-Centric Lab in Emerging Technologies—specifically the Artificial Intelligence Lab

On January 19, 2026, GIET University, Gunupur, proudly inaugurated Odisha’s first Intel® Unnati Data-Centric Lab in Emerging Technologies—specifically the Artificial Intelligence Lab. This landmark event, held as a pre-summit highlight of the AICTE AI Impact Summit 2026 and aligned with the IndiaAI Mission, was a collaborative triumph between Intel, HPE, and Edgate Technologies. The program equips students and faculty with cutting-edge infrastructure to drive AI innovation, fostering skill development in data-centric computing and high-performance technologies.

Distinguished guests graced the occasion, including Dr. K M Gopal, Deputy Dean of Computational Sciences, GIET University; Prof. (Dr.) NVJ Rao, Registrar, GIET University; and Prof. (Dr.) AVNL Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, GIET University. Joining virtually were Mr. Haraprasanna Rath, National Head at HPE, and Mr. Girish, National Manager for AI/HPC & Intel® Unnati. Mr. Gurpreet Singh from Edgate Technologies and Mr. Suhaas D, who led the Train the Trainer program, also contributed significantly.

The event commenced with Registrar Prof. (Dr.) NVJ Rao addressing students and faculty. He urged them to prioritize skills and innovation, emphasizing industrial certifications in emerging technologies. “Improve your skills to become industry-ready,” he stressed, inspiring the audience to bridge academia and real-world demands.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) AVNL Sharma delivered a compelling speech on AI’s transformative role. Drawing from personal experience, he shared how AI guided his agriculture ventures—recommending optimal seeds, farming techniques, and organic practices from a local shop, yielding higher profits. In medicine, he highlighted AI’s potential to save time and ensure precise prescriptions. He encouraged students: “Make correct use of your time and engage deeply with emerging technologies.”

Mr. Gurpreet Singh opened by noting global hardware shortages and rising costs, positioning the Intel® Unnati program as a vital solution. He outlined its benefits: access to advanced tools, skill-building courses, certifications, internships, and placement opportunities. “Start programs not just to win, but to explore industrial revolutions and solve real problems,” he advised. Congratulating GIET on becoming an “AI-enabled campus,” he celebrated the collaborative spirit.

The inauguration featured the Train the Trainer program by Mr. Suhaas D, equipping educators with practical AI skills. Virtual inputs from HPE and Intel leaders reinforced the lab’s alignment with national goals like the IndiaAI Mission, promoting inclusive AI adoption.

This initiative marks a pivotal step for Odisha’s tech ecosystem, empowering GIET University to lead in AI education. It promises hands-on learning, industry partnerships, and innovation, preparing the next generation for a data-driven future. The institute is also planning to depute concerned faculty members for AICTE AI Impact Summit 2026 which will be scheduled in February 2026.
