The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University, Odisha, Gunupur, organized a one-week virtual international seminar, Global Perspectives on Mechanical Engineering and Technology (GPMET-2024), from February 19 to February 24, 2024. This seminar brought together distinguished speakers from diverse domains to discuss emerging trends and challenges in mechanical engineering and related technologies. The sessions provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of global advancements in the field.
The seminar commenced on February 19, 2024, with a keynote session by Mr. Suresh Kumar Satapathy, Founder & CEO of Supply Chain & Sourcing Consultants, Gurgaon, who delivered the inaugural address from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM. As the Chief Guest, Mr. Satapathy emphasized the critical role of supply chain management and technological innovations in enhancing industrial productivity. His insights into real-world applications of mechanical engineering technologies set the tone for the seminar.
Following the inauguration, Dr. Suraj Kumar Mukti, Associate Professor at NIT Raipur, delivered a session on February 19 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Dr. Mukti discussed cutting-edge research in advanced manufacturing processes, highlighting the integration of smart technologies such as IoT and AI in improving manufacturing efficiency. His detailed exploration of automation’s role in modern engineering solutions captivated the audience.
On February 20, Dr. I M Loya, Chief Technology Innovation Officer at Essel Group, Singapore, shared his expertise from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Dr. Loya’s session focused on technological innovation strategies in the global market, emphasizing sustainability and the future of engineering practices. His insights into the role of innovation in tackling environmental challenges were particularly impactful.
The seminar continued with Dr. Chitta Ranjan Deo, Associate Professor at VSSUT Burla, presenting on February 21 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Dr. Deo’s session revolved around the computational techniques in mechanical design, offering participants a glimpse into simulation technologies and their applications in optimizing engineering solutions.
Dr. Lakshmi Prasad Panda, Assistant Professor at GCE Kalahandi, delivered an insightful session on February 22 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Dr. Panda focused on entrepreneurship and business models, exploring recent advancements and their practical applications across various industries. He emphasized the significance of innovative thinking, market analysis, and sustainable business practices in fostering successful entrepreneurial ventures. His analytical approach and real-world examples provided valuable insights for aspiring engineers looking to translate technical expertise into business success.
On 23rd February 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Dr. S. K. Kar, Head of M&C at the Central Tool Room & Training Centre, Bhubaneswar, delivered an insightful seminar focused on technology development and skill utilization. The session emphasized the importance of leveraging cutting-edge technologies to drive industrial growth, with a particular focus on fostering innovation through advanced manufacturing tools and processes. Dr. Kar highlighted strategies for bridging the gap between technical education and industry requirements, underscoring the role of skill development programs in empowering professionals and students to meet evolving technological demands. The seminar also addressed the need for multidisciplinary collaboration and lifelong learning to harness the full potential of modern tools for sustainable and impactful technological progress.
The concluding day of the seminar, February 24, featured two engaging sessions. Mr. Sanjeeb Samal, Corporate Head HR at Heritage Nutrivet Limited, Hyderabad, shared his perspectives on human resource management in engineering industries from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This was followed by Mr. Prashant Sahoo, Engineering Leader in the Nuclear Business at GE Power India, Noida, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, who discussed advancements in nuclear energy systems and their implications for sustainable development.
Overall, GPMET-2024 provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, fostering innovation and collaboration among academicians, professionals, and students. The seminar’s focus on emerging technologies and sustainability underscored its relevance to contemporary mechanical engineering challenges.
