Embracing Artificial Intelligence in Higher and Technical Education

As we usher in 2025, let us embrace the opportunities this year brings, particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a domain poised to reshape education and society.

AICTE continues to lead the transformation of technical education in India by promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry readiness in institutions. Over the past year, AICTE has established nine Indovation Centers, fostering robust industry-academia collaboration, with initiatives including 900 technology scouting activities, 65 IP and Tech Transfer meets, and programs promoting entrepreneurship, industry visits, and joint research.

To bridge theory and practice, AICTE has introduced the Professors of Practice (PoP) initiative, enabling industry experts to contribute to academia. The PROFICIENCE scheme for lifelong learning and the Working Professional Policy offer flexible pathways to complete Diploma, UG, and PG programs. AICTE’s dynamic model curriculum integrates emerging fields such as AI, Quantum Computing, Sustainable Energy, and Defence Technology.

Additionally, the council prioritizes inclusivity with scholarship programs like Pragati (for girl students), Saksham (for differently-abled students), and the Swanath scheme (for underprivileged learners). Through ATAL faculty training programs and multilingual e-KUMBH resources, AICTE ensures the dissemination of updated knowledge. AICTE’s apprenticeship-embedded programs, partnerships with leading organizations like Adobe, CISCO, and IBM, and an internship portal benefiting over 5.4 million students reflect its commitment to skill development.

Inspired by the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision to make India a Vishwa Guru, AICTE emphasizes the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is not merely a technological advancement but a catalyst for reshaping industries, economies, and societies. To lead this revolution, AI must be woven into the fabric of our higher education system.

Call to Action: AI Integration in Education
AICTE urges all approved institutions to adopt the following measures to affirm India’s leadership in AI:

  1. AI Affirmation Pledge

Each institution is requested to formally adopt and display the following pledge:
“We pledge to position India as a Vishwa Guru in AI, leading innovation, ethics, and education, fulfilling our Prime Minister’s vision.”

This pledge signifies a commitment to:

  • Introduce and integrate AI courses across disciplines.
  • Foster innovation and research in AI.
  • Prepare students for AI-driven industries.
  • Promote ethical AI use for societal benefit.

Institutions should hold formal ceremonies to adopt this pledge and prominently display it on campus and in external communications.

  1. Campus-Wide Campaign:“AI for All: The Future Begins Here”

Launch awareness campaigns with initiatives like:

  • AI Awareness Week: Workshops, guest lectures, and hackathons to demystify AI.
  • AI Student Chapters: Peer learning and innovation in AI.
  • AI Labs: Establish industry-aligned AI labs.
  • AI Career Pathways: Career counseling for AI-driven professions.
  1. AI-First Curriculum

Update curricula to include both foundational and advanced AI topics, fostering interdisciplinary approaches.

  1. Faculty Development

Conduct workshops and certifications to equip faculty with AI teaching expertise.

  1. Industry Collaboration

Partner with AI-driven organizations to provide real-world exposure through internships, projects, and mentorships.
