Two-Day Skill Enhancement Training on Basics of Computational Fluid Dynamics

Venue: MB-02 (Mechanical Building)

Date: 4th and 5th November 2024, Time: 4:00 PM to 6.00 PM

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become an indispensable tool across engineering fields, allowing researchers and engineers to simulate and analyze fluid flows, heat transfer, and related phenomena using computational models. Recognizing the growing importance of CFD, this two-day training program aims to provide a fundamental introduction to CFD for beginners, covering essential theories, tools, and practical applications. This program is designed for students looking to develop a foundational understanding of CFD principles and methodologies.

Program Overview:

The program was organised by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University, Odisha, Gunupur. It was successfully conducted for 3rd and 5th semester Mechanical Engineering students on 4th and 5th November 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6.00 PM (MB-02, Mechanical Building). This program focusses on introducing participants to the theoretical aspects of CFD. The sessions began with an overview of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, essential for understanding CFD’s applications. Topics covered in the session are:

  1. Introduction to CFD
  2. Application areas of CFD
  3. Concept of CFD Analysis
  4. Career in CFD
  5. CFD Tools and Programming Skills
  6. CFD Analysis of Fluid Flow Through Pipe
  7. Summaries

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the two-day training program, participants will:

  • Understand the fundamental principles and governing equations of CFD.
  • Gain familiarity with CFD software tools and their user interfaces.
  • Learn best practices for CFD modeling and validation.

Conclusion:

This training program is an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain a foundational understanding of CFD and its practical applications in engineering and research. The completion of this training program on the basics of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) marks an important milestone in understanding the fundamentals of this powerful analytical tool. Participants have gained insights into the core principles, numerical methods, and practical applications of CFD, enabling them to model and analyze fluid flow phenomena with greater confidence. Throughout the program, we covered essential topics such as the governing equations of fluid dynamics, discretization techniques, and the importance of grid generation.
