GIET was declared as a state university on 28th Dec 2018 by Govt. of Odisha as 4th Private University of the state. GIET University is approved by the Govt. of Odisha and AICTE, New Delhi. The NBA accredits most of the programs offered under the University.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, GIET University is organizing, Three–Week AICTE Sponsored STTP on “Challenges and Application of the Cyber-Physical System”.
