Innovative Teaching

The department of Computer Science and Technology at GIET University has dedicated, qualified and experienced faculty and support staff. The constant effort of the faculty members is to ensure that education becomes fun and thrilling experience. They employ different pedagogical activities to make sure that students are interested and motivated in studying the curriculum. The different innovative methods employed by the faculty to make learning interesting, fun and engaging are:

1. Lecture method and interactive learning

• The faculty make use of audio-visual aids to enhance the learning experience
• Students are motivated to clarify their doubts during the lecture hour itself.
• During the lecture hour, the initial few minutes are used for revising previously taught topics. The last few minutes are similarly used to give a summary of the current class.
• Concept oriented activities are conducted in the classroom with the participation of students.

2. Innovations in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

• Every classroom is provided with an LCD projector, computer with LAN and internet connection. The faculty can also use the database of the digital library from the classroom. The use of simulated teaching software help students to understand the subject matter in an extremely visualised form. The digital library consists of important materials like recorded video lectures, animations and so on.
• The students can also access the server of the digital library from home with the help of a URL link provided to them.

3. Application-Based Learning

• Students are encouraged to attend workshops on application-based learning. Interested students develop projects after completing the workshop.
• Students are encouraged to an internship in an industry of their choice.
• Students are taken to industrial visits at least once a semester to see the real-time operation of different companies, organisations.

4. Practical Learning

• Practical and virtual laboratory exercises are conducted for the benefit of students.
• In addition to experiments mentioned in the curriculum, students are encouraged to practice additional experiments
• Software’s like Android Studio, Oracle, Net Beans, Eclipse, etc. are used in the development of applications.

Other than these innovative and creative teaching methods, the focus of the department is also on the all-round development of the students. To that end, guest lectures and seminars are arranged from the some of the best industrial and corporate professionals so that students get an idea of the actual working environment. The department also conducts student visits to reputed industries which acquaints them with the processes and practices of modern industry. This helps students to develop an understanding of the practices followed in modern industries.
