The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University, Odisha, Gunupur, in association with the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, successfully concluded the Three-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Outcome-Based Education: Assessment and Evaluation” on 17 June 2026.
The FDP was organized with the objective of equipping faculty members with the knowledge and practical skills required for the effective implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and contemporary quality assurance practices in higher education.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in a series of intensive sessions covering the philosophy, significance, and implementation of Outcome-Based Education. The programme provided comprehensive exposure to Vision and Mission formulation, Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs), Course Outcomes (COs), Programme Outcomes (POs), Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs), CO-PO-PSO Mapping, preparation of lesson plans and course files, assessment and evaluation methodologies, attainment calculations, and quality assurance mechanisms associated with OBE.
The sessions were conducted by Dr. Rayapati Subbarao, Associate Professor, NITTTR Kolkata, whose expert guidance, practical demonstrations, and interactive discussions enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of outcome-oriented teaching, learning, and assessment practices. Faculty members particularly appreciated the hands-on exercises and practical approaches to attainment calculation, assessment planning, and documentation processes.
During the valedictory session, participants shared their experiences and feedback, expressing appreciation for the relevance, depth, and practical orientation of the programme. They highlighted how the FDP enhanced their understanding of curriculum design, assessment strategies, and quality enhancement practices essential for achieving measurable learning outcomes.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. Murli Gopal, Principal, School of Engineering and Technology, commended the enthusiastic participation of faculty members and emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in strengthening academic quality and institutional excellence.
Prof. (Dr.) A. V. N. L. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, GIET University, lauded the efforts of IQAC and NITTTR Kolkata in organizing the programme and encouraged faculty members to effectively integrate the principles of Outcome-Based Education into their academic practices. He reiterated the University’s commitment to fostering innovation, quality enhancement, and learner-centric education.
In his valedictory address, Dr. Rayapati Subbarao reflected on the key learnings of the FDP and emphasized that Outcome-Based Education is not merely a framework for accreditation but a transformative approach aimed at ensuring meaningful learning, accountability, and continuous improvement in higher education.
As a mark of appreciation for his invaluable contribution, Dr. Rayapati Subbarao was felicitated by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and the Principal, School of Engineering and Technology.
The FDP witnessed the participation of 101 faculty members from various Schools and Departments of the University, reflecting GIET University’s collective commitment towards academic excellence, quality assurance, and outcome-oriented educational practices.
The successful completion of the programme marks another significant step in GIET University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional quality and promote best practices in higher education through continuous faculty development and capacity-building initiatives.
