GIET University Inaugurates Three-Day Faculty Development Programme on Outcome-Based Education
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University, Odisha, Gunupur, in association with NITTTR Kolkata, inaugurated a Three-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Outcome-Based Education: Assessment and Evaluation” at the Administrative Auditorium on 15 June 2026.
The inaugural session witnessed the gracious presence of university dignitaries, faculty members, and participants from various departments, reflecting the institution’s continued commitment toward strengthening academic quality, learner-centric pedagogy, and outcome-oriented educational practices.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. K. Murli Gopal, Principal, School of Engineering and Technology (SoET), GIET University, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, resource persons, and participants. He highlighted the significance of faculty development initiatives in enhancing teaching effectiveness and aligning academic practices with evolving educational frameworks.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Balakrishna Tripathy, Pro Vice-Chancellor, GIET University, emphasized the growing significance of Outcome-Based Education in contemporary higher education. He highlighted the need for institutions to move beyond conventional teaching methods and focus on measurable learning outcomes, competency development, and continuous academic improvement aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020.
Prof. (Dr.) A. V. N. L. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, GIET University, also addressed the participants and encouraged faculty members to actively engage with evolving pedagogical frameworks that contribute to quality enhancement and academic excellence.
The inaugural session featured an insightful address by Dr. Rayapati Subbarao, Associate Professor, NITTTR Kolkata, who elaborated on the importance of Outcome-Based Education in fostering learner-centric, skill-oriented, and quality-driven academic systems. He also stressed the role of effective assessment and evaluation practices in ensuring meaningful attainment of learning outcomes.
The FDP aims to provide faculty members with deeper insights into curriculum alignment, assessment strategies, attainment methodologies, and quality assurance mechanisms associated with Outcome-Based Education. The technical sessions scheduled over the next three days will focus on strengthening pedagogical understanding and enhancing institutional preparedness toward outcome-oriented academic practices.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members across departments, reflecting the University’s collective commitment toward academic innovation and continuous professional development.
The inaugural session was moderated by Amlan Asutosh, Assistant Professor, GIET University, while the formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Radhakrushna Padhi.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment toward fostering quality-driven and outcome-oriented higher education practices.
