Awareness programme on “Importance and Adoption of Organic inputs for regeration of Waste and degraded lands” at IRBn Bhamini by ELP- Commercial Vermicompost Production Unit

On 13th March 2026, the ELP-Commercial Vermicompost Production Unit students, accompanied by Dr. Rajeswari Das, Dr. K. Srikar, and Dr. Suman G. Sahu, conducted a comprehensive garden assessment and soil rejuvenation awareness programme at the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), Bhamini, Gunupur. Following the request of Chief Commandant Mr. Braja Mohan Nayak, the team evaluated multiple sites, including the gardens near the campus Shiva Mandir, the administrative office, and the residential quarters. A technical inspection revealed that the soil near the temple was significantly degraded due to a critical depletion of organic matter, leading to poor structure and fertility. To address these challenges, an interactive awareness session was held in the IRBn conference hall for 30 staff members, where Dr. Rajeswari Das and the ELP students emphasized the role of organic amendments in soil rejuvenation. The team showcased various bio-organic products developed by the School of Agriculture, GIET University, highlighting the long-term importance of organic applications for crop health and sustainable landscaping. The programme concluded with a high-engagement Q&A session, providing the IRBn personnel with actionable insights into restoring their campus green cover through systematic Integrated Nutrient Management.
