M. Tech or MBA: An Engineers Dilemma

After successful completion of B. Tech courses, all graduates face several questions. Whether to take up a job or study further? Family compulsions often force some students to take up a routine job after graduation. Those who wish to study further face another dilemma of which course to pursue? Most engineering graduates often choose between an M. Tech degree or an MBA degree. Both are specialized degrees and provide excellent career opportunities. Both the degrees act as an additional advantage to an engineer, whether in terms of experience, knowledge, or seniority. This blog discusses both M. Tech and MBA and tries to arrive at a balanced answer as to why students should pursue either after completing engineering.

To enroll for M. Tech in a reputed institute, one needs to crack the GATE entrance exam. In case one is planning to do an MBA, then there are entrance exams like CAT and MAT that one needs to clear.

A student must recognize their interests, goals, and capabilities before making any career-related choice. If they are more enthusiastic about core engineering subjects and technology-related fields, they should go for an M. Tech. It will furthermore provide them with a better knowledge of their respective subject. They can consider a career in research, academics, Project Associate, and so on.

However, if they have more inclination towards business and leadership, doing an MBA may be the right career choice. MBA after B. Be it finance and banking, management consulting, private equity, data analytics, and so on.
