GANDHI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, ODISHA, GUNUPUR

Chemical Engineering

Overview

Doctor of Philosophy or a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering is a research-based doctoral program. Its duration ranges from 3-5 years.

To be eligible to apply for Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at GIET University,

  • candidates should have a postgraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, or any other equivalent discipline
  • Have an aggregate of at least 55% marks or a CGPA of 5.5 on a ten-point scale from a recognized university.
  • The candidates who have qualified NET/GATE/SRF shall be preferred and can sit directly for the personal interview.

Chemical Engineering is an interdisciplinary subject that deals with transforming raw materials into valuable products. Candidates pursuing a doctorate in the discipline apply the principles of chemistry to the field of engineering. A Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering mainly focuses on the science behind daily life items such as foodstuff, clothing, cosmetic products, paper, paint, detergents, and so on. A doctorate holder in Chemical Engineering will focus on improving and optimizing the processes used to create and refine products. They will strive to create better materials that will have improved properties and will be more durable and thus reduce cost. They will also try their level best to develop solutions to environmental problems like pollution control and remediation.

Candidates can select a range of areas where they want to pursue research. Some of the main areas are:

  • Anaerobic digester hydrodynamic
  • Biochemical engineering
  • Biodegradable polymer nanocomposites
  • Biomass utilization and conversion
  • Chaos and mixing
  • Colloids Science
  • Corrosion and materials degradation
  • Drinking water treatment
  • Flow process and mixture analysis of complex fluids and multiphase mixtures
  • Life cycle analysis of processes
  • Microfluidics
  • Nanodroplets, nanobubbles, and nanocatalysts
  • Polymer processing
  • Rheology of polymers and sludge
  • Surface science
  • Water quality and wastewater treatment

Candidates are guided and mentored in their research areas by the research supervisor.

With a Ph.D. in Chemical, Engineering candidates can work in different area specializations such as Environmental Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Food Engineering, and Waste Engineering. Candidates can also find jobs in different sectors like healthcare, nanotechnology, and food manufacturing. Candidates can also work as Analyst Chemist, Energy Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, and Production Manager.
