GIET University, Gunupur (formerly known as Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology) was established by “Vidya Bharati Educational Trust,” Gunupur, Odisha, India in the year 1997. Since inception, the Trust promotes Technical Education in India with a motto of providing Quality Education in a highly disciplined and conducive environment with International Standards.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) is a centre of excellence providing in-depth technical knowledge and opportunities for innovation and research with up-to-date computing facilities. The department’s mission is to provide a positive and professional learning environment to master the fundamental principles of computing and problem solving skills to build the intellectual capital of the society.
Computer Science Engineering (CSE) encompasses a variety of topics that relates to computation, like analysis of algorithms, programming languages, program design, software, and computer hardware. Computer Science engineering has roots in electrical engineering, mathematics, and linguistics. In the past Computer Science was taught as part of mathematics or engineering departments & in the recent days it has emerged as a separate engineering field.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the academic year 1997–98 with an initial annual intake of 40 students. The intake was increased to 60 in 1999, 90 in 2001, and 120 in 2006. Subsequently, the intake was enhanced to 180 from the academic year 2011–12. In response to the growing demand for quality technical education and the department’s continued academic excellence, the approved annual intake was further increased to 240 from the academic year 2019–20. The department is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), AICTE, New Delhi, reflecting its commitment to maintaining high standards of engineering education and producing competent professionals. The department has successfully graduated 26 batches of engineering students, many of whom are serving in leading multinational companies, research organizations, higher education institutions, and entrepreneurial ventures across the globe.
