The population of about 75,000 is cosmopolitan. The climate is temperate. The environment is pollution free and the setting idyllic with greenery all around.

It is well connected..... both by rail and road. Around 120 buses connect Gunupur directly with Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jeypore, Sunabeda, Rayagada, Bhawanipatna, Indravati, Damanjodi, Umerkote etc. in orissa and Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam etc. in Andhra Pradesh. It has a narrow gauge train that links Gunupur with Naupada, a junction on Howrah - Madras railway line. Express Trains like Bokaro - Allepey, Samata, Samaleswari etc link Gunupur via Rayagada and trains like Coromandal Express, Guawahati - Cochin Express, Falaknama Express etc link Gunupur via Palasa.

Students can easily travel from West Bengal, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand, U.P., M.P., Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh to Gunupur.
