"Global Warming & Climate Change"

Theme
Global warming has emegred as the most environmental threat of 21st century. It will result in less availability of water resources, reduction of green forests to a great extent leading to infectious diseases, heat related deaths and severe environmental pollution. To prevent the dangerous situation from natural and human system, it is the time for all of us to think and work to control the global climate change and deliver all possible efforts to reduce emission of green house gases which is the cause of increase of temperature in the earth.Only by taking proper planning and strict measures and action now, we may be able to save the mother earth with smooth living of present and future generation without serious risk.
Sub Theme
Causes and effects of global warming, effect of greenhouse gases on climate change, impact of climate change on Indian and world socio-economic scenarioo, carbon credit projects, Kyoto protocol formulated by United Nations Frame Work Convention and Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1997, effect of non-conventional energy on climate change, Clean Development Mechanism.

Paptia
A paper presentation will be held among the students based on the convention theme “Global warming & Climate Change”. Authors (students) are requested to send the paper by e-mail to iste@giet.edu.
Submitted manuscripts should not exceed 6 single spaced pages of text using 11 point font size, on A4 pages along with references, figures, tables etc. The files in MS-word format is strongly encouraged. It must include the author’s name, name of college, registration no, roll no. email and phone or mobile number. A maximum of two students are allowed in a group.
Papers will be judged on correctness, originallity, and significance, quality and relevance to the theme areas by a team of experts.
Quizzana
A technical quiz competition will be held among the student groups.
Game Rules:
A maximum of two students are allowed in a group.
The first round will be a written test. After written test ,5 groups will be selected on the basis of marks obtained in the written test.
Among the final 5 groups, a buzzer round will be conducted.
Robatworx
A Robotics event will be held among the student groups.
Game Rules:
A maximum of four students are allowed in a group.
The first round will be a primillary round. After first round the qualified groups will be selected on the basis of marks to the final round.
Attractive cash prize will be given to winner & runner along with many consolation prizes .(Arena will be displayed in www.giet.edu)

Notification of Acceptance : 28th February 2011
Registration
Participants are requested to register themselves by filling in the registration form and sending the same or the scan copy of the same to the convener before 5th Feb 2011. Registration fees as follows;
- The Institute will provide free food and accomodation .
- The participants will be provided participation certificate.
ABOUT ISTE
The Indian Society for Technical Education is a National, Professional, Non-profit making society registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. First started in 1941 as the Association of Principals of Technical Institutions (APTI), it was converted into "The Indian Society for Technical Education" in 1968 with a view to enlarge its activities to advance the cause of technological education. Being the only national organization of educators in the field of Engineering and Technology, ISTE effectively contributes to various missions of the Union Government. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, AICTE/DST/State Govts are well associated with the ISTE for programmes relating to technical education.
ISTE GIET CHAPTER
ISTE Chapter at GANDHI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY, Gunupur has established in the year 2003.The chapter consists of 139 life members and 2837 student members registered as on 2010.GIET, Gunupur has the highest number of Staff and Student members in Orissa.GIET, Gunupur is one of the most vibrant and active chapter of ISTE in Orissa conducting a number of programmes under the banner of ISTE, New Delhi.GIET, Gunupur achieved best ISTE Chapter Award and Best membership drive Award 2010.
About the institute
Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 1997, with an intake of 200 students in four branches with a motto of providing quality engineering education in a highly disciplined environment. In less than a decade it become a citadel of engineering education in Eastern India. In the journey it is ISO 9001:2000 certified and accredited for 5 branches by NBA committee of AICTE. The institution has been Accredited by NAAC, with a CGPA of 3.20 on a Four point scale at "A" grade. It has been regarded as Gurukul by the students, Alumini, Faculty and all distinguished visitors for its learning environment, faculty, infrastructure and the facilities. It has the approval for admission of foreign
nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO's). The college offers B.Tech courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy and Biotechnology. All the programs are approved by AICTE and State Govt. of Orissa. It is affiliated to Biju Patnaik Institute of Technology. The college has consistently excelled in academic, placement and extracurricular activities.
